Eating in a 5 star restaurant is indeed a most delightful experience; what with the delectable dishes and desserts you can find there to satisfy your taste buds. There are various chefs responsible for the smooth functioning of a large restaurant. Some chefs are responsible for pastries, some for main dishes and some junior cooks for preparations, but a restaurant cannot operate smoothly without a master chef. A master chef is responsible for making sure that all cooks do their jobs right, and the food is properly prepared and sent to the tables on time.

The certified master chef is basically the ruling force in the kitchen. It is he who is in charge of all the creative decisions in the kitchens which include the responsibility of choosing the right food and its mode of preparation. In fact, it is the master cook who is the profile celebrity of the restaurant who gives the restaurant its personality. It is not required of him to cook regularly, because his major responsibility is to supervise. But when the kitchen gets too busy or upon customers’ special request, he is required to do some cooking himself.

The Renaissance master chef is indeed the highest achievement any chef can earn. Though many people take the job of a master chef pretty lightly, a master chef certification is actually a professional classification that can be compared to the certification of a Public Accountant. There is a certain master chef standard that has to be achieved before you can attain the highest level of certification in culinary. In America itself, less than 100 people are included in the certified master chef list.

The Master Chef Culinary Institute of Art in America is established in New York. This is the place where examinations are held for a person to attempt to become a master chef. The topics included in these examinations are the use of ingredients, presentation, timing of service, cooking techniques and safety and sanitation in the kitchen.

To participate in a master chef certification program, the candidate should be able to fit the job description of a master chef. He should have a good foundation in culinary arts, a passion for working with food and willingness to work for long hours and under pressure.
